DreamGiver.jpgHere's an adventure book that you'll want to read. Bruce Wilkinson, author of the best-selling book The Prayer of Jabez, has written a modern classic in the style of A Pilgrim's Progress. Opening with the story of a boy named Ordinary, The Dream Giver begins with the story of a boy named Ordinary who lives in the land of Familiar and soon discovers that the Dream Giver has put a dream in his heart he can't ignore.  Setting off to follow the Dream Giver's promptings he encounters  the same obstacles that keeps the rest of us living in the land of Familiar.

As a timeless story, the first half of this book is suitable for reading to the whole family.  Your kids will enjoy following Ordinary's adventures depicted in the first half of this book.  You'll enjoy reading the remaining chapters on how to apply Biblical principles of God's guidance to your own journey.

surpriseme.jpgIn his book Surprise Me, Terry Esau, begins a faith experiment of reciting the short prayer, "Surprise me, God," each day for 30 days. By approaching his day with God with this prayer, Terry has put aside his agenda for the day in anticipation of what is about to happen next. Surprise Me invites you to approach your spiritual life with openness and an eye for the unexpected to discover God working in the everyday moments in your life, from the spectacular to the mundane. Through his own journey with the "Surprise Me" faith experiment, Terry illustrates how the good and bad surprises of life draw you into a deeper relationship with God.
"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows," James 1:17 (NIV)

This morning as I got dressed, I was pleasantly surprised to find $5.00 in a pair of pants that I have not worn for about three months. I like surprises; especially those surprises that benefit me. When I was a kid, I would beg my parents to buy me a box of Cracker Jacks, not because I liked caramel popcorn.
tesau.jpgTerry Esau (website) has taken the spiritual principle of practicing the presence of God to a level that all men can identify with by uttering this simple prayer, "Surprise me, God." Terry was a musician in his former career. He has written thousands of jingles for fortune 500 companies like Target, McDonalds, Pepsi, and Harley Davidson. As he transitioned from a career of writing songs to writing books, he has encountered many of the fears that men face when switching jobs and careers. He now travels around the country to speak in churches to help people discover how God desires to be a part of their everyday life, even in the mundane and routine tasks of life. Terry took the risk of asking God to barge into his life in any way that He pleases. He did this by embarking on a thirty day experiment of faith which he wrote about in a book published by NavPress, Surprise Me: A 30 Day Faith Experiment.
