A friend of mine just invited me to an execution -- of sorts. He had just put a contract out on himself.
Tired of perpetually creating goals he'd never keep, he decided he need to put a little skin in the game and invited me in on the action. So he signed up for a free service, www.stickK.com, to track his goals and administer incentives.
Here's how it works. Once you register, you create any goal you like and set whatever milestones to be tracked. That's the easy part. What makes this tool really interesting is that it has you create a "Commitment Contract" which specifies the goal, timeframe and, optionally, a financial penalty if you don't make it.
So, literally, you take out a performance contract on yourself. If you don't make your goal, you forfeit ten bucks or whatever you designate as your motivator to whomever you designate. stickK acts as the intermediary to send progress reminders as well as to disburse the funds to the designated recipient in case you don't make your goal. The designated recipient could be a friend, a charity or an "anti-charity" -- an organization or individual you don't like -- just in case you needed a even greater incentive.
With the new year underway, maybe you'd like to stickK it to yourself to make some of your good intentions a reality. Of course, if you need a recipient, I'm always available. :-)
